Intruder Alarm Installation in Leeds

A useful alarm is not a kit off a shelf. Ours are specified around how a building is used, but most domestic systems are built from the same parts:

The hub. The brain of the system. Connects to your broadband and to mobile networks at the same time, so losing one does not lose the alarm.

Motion detectors. Placed to cover the routes an intruder has to take, not just scattered around rooms. We use pet-tolerant detectors where you have animals.

MotionCam detectors. Motion detectors with a camera built in. When triggered they take a short series of photographs and send them to your phone within seconds, so you can see what set the alarm off rather than guessing.

Door and window contacts. On the openings that actually matter, which is rarely all of them.

Sirens. Internal and external. The internal one does more work than people expect: nobody wants to stay in a building that loud.

Keypads or app. Most people end up arming from their phone, but a keypad by the door suits some households better, especially where not everyone wants an app.

This is the feature worth understanding, because it changes what an alarm actually does for you.

A traditional alarm tells you something triggered. It cannot tell you whether that was an intruder, a balloon from a birthday party, or a spider on a lens. So you either ignore it, or you drive home.

Ajax MotionCam detectors photograph the trigger. Within seconds you have images on your phone and can see, for yourself, whether anything is wrong.

For a family away on holiday, that is the difference between a ruined week and a ten-second glance at a phone.

It is the most common objection and it deserves a straight answer.

Cheap wireless systems can be interfered with. That is a real weakness of budget kit, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

Ajax addresses it in three ways. The radio link hops between frequencies rather than sitting on one. Communication between devices is encrypted. And the system actively watches for jamming. If something tries to interfere, it reports the attempt rather than going quietly offline.

The system also monitors itself continuously. If a device stops responding or a battery is running low, you know before it becomes a problem, rather than discovering it the day you need it.

For the great majority of homes, wireless, and not as a compromise.

Wireless installation means no chasing walls, no lifting carpets, no redecorating afterwards, and a system that can be extended later without another round of mess. Ajax battery life is measured in years rather than months.

Wired still makes sense on some larger commercial sites and on new builds where first-fix cabling is going in anyway. If yours is one of those, we will say so at survey.

Two things worth being straight about:

We do not offer police response. A police Unique Reference Number can only be issued through an installer certificated by NSI or SSAIB, and we do not hold that certification. If police response is essential for your property, we will tell you at survey rather than afterwards.

Check with your insurer before you commit. Some policies, more often on higher-value properties, require a system installed by a certificated company. Many domestic policies have no such requirement. It takes one phone call and we would rather you made it first.

Most alarm companies are not electricians. We are, and our engineering background is in fuel forecourt infrastructure and hazardous-area electrical systems, where intermittent faults have real consequences and guesswork is not an option.

In practice that means when something is behaving oddly, we diagnose it rather than replacing parts until it stops. It also means the electrical side of an installation is done properly, because it is our own trade.
